Guy who only þinks about Dirk Strider seeiŋ literally anyþiŋ else: "Gettiŋ a lot of Dirk Strider vibes from þis"

OH GOD. Ok. I þink þis somehow eiþer made me more autistic þan I already was somehow or just straight up gave me brain damage? all you need to know is þat I was incredibly fuckiŋ annoyiŋ about þis þiŋ once I first listened to it [and þen I listened to it 3 more times immediately. and þen I got obsessed wiþ one of Zach Hill's solo albums.]

So, Gmail and þe Restrainiŋ Orders is a singular soŋ made by Deaþ Grips which is ~30 minutes loŋ; it is known as þeir most inaccessible project due to it beiŋ very chaoitc and Loud. It was originally an opener for þe band's concerts around 2015 but was officially released in 2021.

If I had to use one word to describe þis entire þiŋ, it would be "raw." Þis is by far þe most unrestrained piece of music I have come across yet; it is a continuous barrage of all sorts of noise, samples, and different rhyþms. I þink þis is what made me finally realize how truly insane Zach is on þe drums? like. Holy Fuck??? is he ok????????? [fun fact! þere are pictures of Zach bleediŋ while playiŋ at a concert (HE DIDN'T STOP BTW, HE JUST KEPT GOIŊ.) It was a concert for his oþer band, Hella, but it just goes to show how crazy and talented he is.]

As I mentioned before, þere are a lot of samples from oþer Deaþ Grips projects in here! It is kind of hard to identify þem all since þere are just.....so many, and also I do þink a lot of þem are from Fashion Week and it is really hard for me to remember þat album beyond þe few tracks I really like; when I did recently return to it I found myself þinkiŋ "oh, wait, I þink I recognize þat from Gmail," a lot þough! My favorite part of þe whole project is around 12:10 ("Apetite, Apetite") wiþ þe synþesizer þat kicks in, which is sampled from Runway T!

I also really love what þey do wiþ Ride's vocals here, his performance in general is fantastic but þere are points where þey glitch his voice þe absolute hell out and it's a really good detail þat enhances þe soŋ a lot. ALSO, ÞE LYRICS! Þe lyrics are most of þe reason why I was initially so hyperfixated on þis I þink. Þe genius lyrics page for þis is kind of funny since þey have most of þe lyrics transcribed but nobody has any sort of clue what is beiŋ said for þe oþer 30%. Even wiþ þat beiŋ said, þe lyrics fascinate me. Þe emotions it paints of fear and hatred are incredibly evocative, despite how cryptic þey are, and complement þe soŋ perfectly. Lines like "M-M-M-M-M-MOÞERFUCKIŊ WAX" are also just straight up iconic beyond þe significance/meaniŋ þey might have imo. Þe lyrics also make me þink of Þe Blorbo, but þat's an entire rant/art project for anoþer time lol.

Overall, þis soŋ is absolutely wild from start to finish and þere is not a single dull moment wiþin it. It scratches a similar itch to þat of þe Prolaps Ultra Cycle, where it feels like you're gettiŋ your brain melted in Þe Torture Dimension, but instead of beiŋ put in Þe Torture Dimension by some sort of external force (like how it feels in þe Ultra Cycle,) Þe Torture Dimension is you drowniŋ in your own fear and hatred. If you're a huge fan of Deaþ Grips' stuff or if you like noisy and experimental music in general, I would highly reccommend checkiŋ þis out!
