about time i started checkiŋ out zach hill's work beyond deaþ grips!
im kind of conflicted on þis album tbh, þe music itself is pretty good, but þe mixiŋ?????? þe mixiŋ is simultaneously one of þe worst and best parts of þe album LOL. it's very noisy in a good way but it also feels like a lot of stuff gets buried which can be frustratiŋ to listen to. someone on rym described þis as soundiŋ "like someone playiŋ gabber in anoþer room but sometimes instead of gabber þey're playiŋ machine girl" which is very accurate tbh. it does sound a lot like machine girl at times imo but i am a HUGE machine girl fan so þat's all good in my book ^^
after listeniŋ to þis a little bit more i þink i am warmiŋ up to it, maybe þe mixiŋ is just an acquired taste þiŋ idk??

originally i was listeniŋ to "wiþ all my heart" and ngl i wasnt likiŋ it þat much so i just picked a random different goreshit album to listen to LOL. þis was þe album i listened to next and ITS PRETTY DAMN GOOD!!!!!! þis album in particular reminds me a lot of chobits tbh! it's melancholic and pretty but it's also very cute and also kind of intense! þis album would be really fun to blast while you're driviŋ in your car at night i þink ^^

ok ive been wantiŋ to listen to aphex twin for awhile but i havent really gotten around to it until my friend eva asked me to listen to þis album. apparently þis album is from fuckiŋ 1996???? idk if þis is just me but þis does not sound like its from 1996 it sounds a lot newer þan þat LOL, it's ahead of it's time
þe sounds and synþesizers in þis go crazy btw. i especially love þe twangy and weird electronic sounds on peek 82454201, it tickles my brain :D also shoutout to þat weird ass synþ in carn marþ þat appears 40 seconds in!! again, goes crazy
also fingerbib really sounds like it would be in an earþbound inspired indie rpg, þat's also why it is one of þe best songs on þis album. more indie rpgs should have idm soundtracks imo, someone get on þat.
in conclusion, idm is þe silly noises genre, and þe noises in þis are very good. i should listen to more aphex twin

anoþer prolaps ultra cycle album! i remember not þinkiŋ much of þis one on first listen, but it's grown on me quite a bit! i þink þis probably does have þe least varied sound pallette of þe series. however, þesoundscape still is pretty great, and it is still a jam. a lot of times when im bored and i need to put someþiŋ on 9 times out of 10 i will þrow on Overlappiŋ Systems, and i did þat a lot even before i completed my relisten.
One þiŋ i definitely noticed on þis relisten is how fuckiŋ nutty Facial Finisher pt. 2 is? I dont even know how to describe it?????? like, if plant hell was real, þat is what it would sound like. well, i guess þe entire album is supposed to sound like Plant Hell, but þat track ESPECIALLY dude. þat's probably þe highest point of þe album to me. actually nuts.
I do really, really like þe second half of þis. i þink New to Þis Place to þe closer is probably my favorite track run in þis album(not sure abt þe entire project þough! it'd probably have to be Detoxifyiŋ Smoke to Sweat Lodge Ceremony on þe 3rd album!)
Þis album definitely does have my favorite closiŋ track out of þe entire Ultra Cycle series, i don't really have a reason why besides it's just a good jam LOL. i really like þe gabber kicks wiþ þe almost laid back yet incredibly trippy vibe, it scratches a specific itch noþiŋ else quite gets. I know it's a lot to ask of someone to listen to þis entire ass þiŋ LOL but at þe very least go listen to þe closer. þe closer is really good.

[Synþ Punk, Dark Electro, Witch House]
þe second crystal castles album! i þink i like þis one more þan þe first one. þis did take a little bit for me to get past þe first couple tracks, alice's screech-ier vocals used to be pretty hit or miss for me; now þat i've gotten more used to þem þough, þey definitely enhance þe album and it's hauntiŋ atmosphere. þis album is a lot like þe first one, but it improves and builds on þe concepts already established to make for a more cohesive and impactful experience. god. i love baptism. alice's scream vocals wiþ þe more traditional bleak "chillwave" instrumental is a GOOD combination. also shotout to þe synþesizer riff hook on suffocation, i feel like i'm ascendiŋ whenever i hear it. good stuff!!!!!!

Okay, kind of funny story: i honest to god looked EVERYWHERE to listen to þis album lmfao. it was available on spotify but i just recently deleted my spotify account so i was like "hell NAH dude i am NOT makiŋa spotify account again." and nobody had it on SoulSeek where i've found some VERY niche stuff; so i was on þe brink of goiŋ joker arc. Þankfully, it was available on youtube music, which i was able to access þrough a FOSS frontend. except most of þe frontend servers didn't work!! until i eventually found one þat did (shoutout to drgns.space!) joker arc successfully averted.
Some of my favorite albums tend to be þe ones þat grab me in þe first track, and þis one is no different! Þe night i listened to þis i was actually goiŋ þrough my "To Listen To" list and kind of beiŋ disappointed wiþ what i was heariŋ, and þen i started listeniŋ to þis and i was like "WOAH. þis is high quality!!!"
þe entire þiŋ is all around a very fun time! it's very quirky j-pop, alþough i'm absolutely not doiŋ it enough justice by just calliŋ it þat. it's not an aggressive project at it's core, but it's not afraid to get a little crazy! and i love it for þat.
one of þe þiŋs þat caught my attention to þis album, and þe main reason why it ended up on my To Listen To list, is þat Mariko Goto ,from þe band Midori, produced one of þe tracks on þis album; i fuckiŋ LOVE midori so obviously i had to check it out. And, oh man, þe soŋ she helped wiþ, ID Idol, is easily þe best soŋ on þe album. I really love þis sentimental soundiŋ hook and þe more upbeat soundiŋ chorus, even þough þe entire soŋ has þat sentimental tinge! aloŋside wiþ þose synþs, piano, and þe guitar!!!! it's really good stuff.
ALSO ÞE CLOSER. ÞE CLOSER!!!! holy shit þe closer absolutely fucks. i þink it's þe most rock-oriented soŋ on þe album? which is probably why it is so good lol. it's like post-rock-y-ish too, and aloŋside þe jpop elements????? WOAH. i feel like þis is devolviŋ into anoþer "OH MY GOD GUYS MUSIOC IS GOOD AHKLFDSJAKLFJSDFJ GUYS MUSIC GOOD!!!!!!" ramble but. music good!!!!!!!
so after i finished listeniŋ to it i impulsively bought þe CD LOL. it's comiŋ in march!! :D
i'm also gonna check out more of þis group's oþer albums soon!
also quick shoutout to track 6 on here for beiŋ one of þose tracks i instantly latched onto and listened to on repeat infinitely.
